FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Director of Marketing, Tactical & Survival Specialties, Inc. (TSSi)
Harrisonburg, Virginia, November 19, 2020 - Tactical & Survival Specialties, Inc. (TSSi) was honored with the U.S. Department of Labor 2020 Gold HIRE Vets Medallion Award for the second consecutive year. This award is the only federal-level veterans’ employment award that recognizes a company’s commitment to veteran hiring, retention, and professional development.
Upon issuance of this award, President and CEO Bill Strang, a retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer, stated, “We are honored to receive such an award for something that is so natural to our culture at TSSi. Our foundation was built from day one on supporting those who defend and protect our great nation. Having Veterans on our team brings real world experience, knowledge, leadership and dedication to our company and our customers. At TSSi we are committed to supporting America’s service members and our Veterans in everything we do.”
Criteria for recognition vary by level (platinum or gold) and employer size. It also includes the percentage of new hires who are veterans, percentage of veterans who were retained, and veteran employee percentage. TSSi workforce consists of 31% of TSSi military veteran employees. TSSi’s application provided information about the internal and external educational opportunities the company provides veterans. It also discussed the many veteran organizations that TSSi supports, including the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and support to the James Madison University ROTC’s annual Vietnam Veterans luncheon.
The HIRE Vets Medallion Program recognizes employers for their efforts to recruit, employ, and retain our nation’s veterans. President Donald J. Trump signed the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans (HIRE Vets) Act of 2017 into law in May 2017. The Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) administers the HIRE Vets Medallion Program. HIRE Vets Medallion Awards are awarded by employer size. TSSi was awarded a medium employer award for employers with more than 50 but fewer than 500 employees.
